Hot Water 热水, 2016
Video, notes
Beijing

Jeanne Launey worked for a few months at Bernard Controls China. She took an interest in the department’s activities and, in a few conversations within the WORK / LIVE process, felt the need to voice personal doubts about life, work and the difficult balance between them. Here are the notes collected from her, together with the image she wanted to turn into a conceptual work: hot water from the shower, stopping her thoughts and doubts for a while.
“I want to switch off. I built my position the way it is, but now, at only twenty-six, I am not sure it is right, or what it means. I have an image: hot water from the shower over my head. As long as the hot water runs, the thoughts stop. But afterwards they come back. The shower becomes a place of intimacy and reflection. I see things more clearly; I can find a different perspective, calmer and more distant. I keep asking myself: how does the body feel at work?”
Jeanne’s self-made video was shown at Cache 798 in the group exhibition Waiting for Work 待工.
