WORK / LIVE 干活 Radisav Markovic and the workers of Paris-Gonesse

With Karim Ben Sala, Moussa Faty, Djamel Harrache, Ahmed Ahmadi, Zoran Colanic, Mamadou Sissoko, Ridha Kedidir, Alain Bordas, Brian Gay, Rudson Visgueiro, Jeyaluksan Akilan, Véronique Zampiccoli, Sounkarou Dembélé, Mickael Abid and Fazil Mougammadou.

This collective work draws on the replies, witticisms and on-the-spot thoughts of some workers during chance conversations. Radisav Markovic chose to engrave these aphorisms on the back of the number plates of servo-motors. Their authors then, one by one, fixed their plate on a motor ready for shipment.

With this gesture the mass-produced product became a unique piece, marked by a personal, secret testimony. For the first time, artistic action slipped into the standardised processes of making the product – a freedom of action and expression obtained with the agreement of the management.
