Paper Courtyard (A Paper-Walled Community Space in the Factory) 纸院子, 2017
Spatial research, interviews, design and rendering of a community space, photo documentation
Beijing

Chakman Lei and Alessandro Rolandi imagined a community space for leisure inside the factory, made of portable structures and soft materials: it would give privacy and could easily be put up and taken down, to follow the constant changes in the layout of the production workshop.
The sketches describe it as a “paper temple”: a non-place for relaxation and meditation, a soft building contrasting with the hard concrete, stainless steel and glass of the factory, defined by sixteen mobile paper walls that can be opened or closed, with a small library inside.
The project has been reviewed and discussed but not yet built. The images show the concept sketches and the digital rendering.
