Yu Jing 余景 visited the factory regularly. After talking informally with the workers, he set up his easel and painted from life, recording his impressions in full view of everyone.
At the end of his residency he decided to show the works on the outside walls of the workshop, leaving them exposed to weather and time. Some were lost, some destroyed by the weather, some taken home by workers or members of staff.
From the artist’s statement: “I walked into the factory. I don’t and won’t live here; I just watched them, talked to them, shared some time together. I sketched quickly; I recorded the blink of an eye. I left, and I didn’t bring anything.” Method: sketches made on site in the factory, then hung outdoors in wind, rain and sun.
