Manufactura, ou la poésie de l'outil : trucs, astuces et raccourcis.

Cela peut prendre du temps pour amener certains outils au point de standardisation. À l'heure actuelle, leur développement est généralement formalisé par un processus d'amélioration continue - un domaine reconnu par les Kaizen Awards annuels.
Inspirées et nourries d'échanges dans l'atelier de production, nos recherches portent sur des objets assemblés en usine ayant échappé au protocole Kaizen. Seul l'artisan peut fabriquer ses propres outils, et ces produits sont des pièces uniques de qualité supérieure développées pour répondre aux besoins de ceux-là mêmes qui les ont façonnés.
Plus précisément, ces objets nous relient aux anciens principes pratiques et intuitifs sur lesquels certains métiers sont encore basés - parfois parce que c'est tout ce qui est possible avec les outils à portée de main, mais tout aussi souvent parce que personne n'a trouvé de meilleur moyen de cette pratique ingénieuse et profondément personnelle de l'improvisation contraste fortement avec les normes générales de la production industrielle. La pérennité de cette démarche, où l'invention créatrice se réalise par la seule main habile, révèle le lien intime entre l'ouvrier et ses matériaux. Le projet propose une typologie de ces humbles innovations, tours de passe-passe personnels qui témoignent de la mémoire de leur inventeurs du quotidien.

Manufactura, or the poetry of the tool: tricks, hacks and shortcuts.

It can take time to bring some tools to the point of standardisation. At the present moment, their development is generally formalised by a process of continuous improvement - a field recognised by the annual Kaizen Awards.
Inspired and nurtured by exchanges in the production workshop, our research focusses on factory-assembled objects that escaped the Kaizen protocol. Only the artisan can make his own tools, and these products are unique, top-quality pieces developed to meet the needs of the very people who fashioned them.
More precisely, these objects connect us with the practical and intuitive ancient principles on which some trades are still based- sometimes because that is all that is possible with the tools at hand, but just as often because nobody has come up with any better way of doing them.This ingenious and deeply personal practice of improvisation is a stark contrast to the general norms of industrial production. The durability of this approach, in which creative invention is realised through the skilled hand alone, reveals the intimate link between the worker and his materials.The project offers a typology of these humble innovations, personal sleights of hand which testify to the memory of their everyday inventors.
